Understanding Mature Skin Needs
As skin ages, it often becomes drier and less elastic. Choosing makeup products that provide hydration and a smooth finish is crucial. Even though Mature skin may have more noticeable textures, we can make some easy tweaks to still get a beautiful and flawless makeup finish. And, avoid having powder settle into fine lines.
Choosing the Right Setting Powder
When selecting a setting powder for mature skin, focus on texture and formulation. You'll want a lightweight, finely milled powder that glides on smoothly and leaves a silky texture without feeling heavy. Everyone's skin is different, so if your skin tends to be more dry, look for a hydrating powder that includes antioxidants. If you have dark circles, (because who doesn't??), a color correcting, or brightening powder can help even out skin tone.
I've tried more setting powders and techniques than I can count, but doing so has really helped me to hone in on what works best for my skin. The BK Beauty Nikki La Rose N14 Petite Precision Multitasker is my favorite brush for concealer, and my favorite concealer is the Catrice True Skin High Cover Concealer. I apply concealer to the back of my hand, instead of directly on my skin. This helps control the amount of concealer I use (which then controls caking and creasing).
For setting powders, I have 3 beautiful, affordable options. First, is L'Oreal Paris Infallible Blur-fection Longwear Loose Powder. Second, Morphe Bake & Set Setting Powder. Last, but not least is the most affordable option, the Essence Flawless Skin Trio Powder.
Application Techniques for Mature Skin
We've all seen younger influencers that liberally apply their setting powder using a triangle puff. Our mature skin cannot handle that much powder. We have to use a very light hand when using setting powder under our eyes. I recommend focusing on areas that tend to get oily, such as your T-zone, and steer clear of overly applying the powder to dry spots. Using a smaller brush like the BK Beauty108 Precision Powder Brush really helps with precise application to avoid over-powdering your under eye area.

Incorporating a Setting Spray
Not only does setting spray help your makeup look fresh and natural throughout the day, it really can extend your makeup wear while maintaining a healthy glow. To ensure you get as much wear out of your concealer and a flawless finish, consider using a setting spray after applying your powder. I have shared my technique for "sandwiching" your setting spray, which helps your makeup last even longer. You can check out that video here for the technique in detail.
If you only need a setting spray to lock in your makeup look, I love this affordable option Milani Make it Last Original Setting Spray. It has never let me down. If you want a cleaner option that nourishes your skin while also locking in your makeup, the Face Hack is amazing.
Choosing the right products and going in with a gentle touch, can help you go from cakey and creasy to beautiful, brightened and blurred. Take the time to experiment with different powders and methods to find what works best for your unique skin type, and enjoy a radiant and youthful look!
